The pattern is the Soho Tweed Cabled Oversized Vest, a free pattern from Tahki Stacy Charles, Inc.
I knew I wanted to show off these striking tights and that they would be so much fun to wear in the dreary winter. How true! I've only seen grass in my yard once since January, only snow, and more snow. The Soho Tweed in Hot Pink is a perfect match, along with the mock turtleneck in a blue violet shade that I found at Chico's to wear under the vest, which I converted to a tunic length.
It was easy to convert: I knitted the rib section, and then did the set-up rows for the cables. Then, instead of kntting only eight rows before making the first cable row, I knitted forty-four rows to achieve tunic length. I followed the pattern exactly for the remainder. The back and front are knitted alike until the front neck shaping. Also, since I was wearing another turtleneck under it, I made the turtleneck to only 4 inches instead of eight. If I knitted it again, I would probably knit it in the round up to the armholes, to eliminate the side seams, then separate front and back onto separate needles. Here is the finished result:
I enjoy planning an entire ensemble when I knit something. My necklace is from Chico's in Huntington, West Virginia. My Naot shoes are from my favorite shoe store, Unger's in Ironton, Ohio. I knitted a size Medium using 15 skeins of Tahki Yarns Soho Bulky Tweed, 50gram. I have five skeins of hot pink left which is enough to knit a matching cable bag, a free pattern from Vogue Knitting.
